Sedation Dentistry
Sedation dentistry is a great alternative for those who suffer from fear, anxiety and phobias stemming from dental appointments. Over 50 million Americans have some type of fear, anxiety or phobia when it comes to visiting the dentist. Some patients are just afraid, while others have had a traumatic experience in the dental chair. For many people avoidance of dental care has resulted in major problems. Sedation dentistry encompasses various techniques. We are focusing here on what is called oral conscious sedation (a pill taken by mouth). Dr. Vincent Tavormina has found oral conscious sedation to be safe, convenient and economical. It can be more effective and deliver a deeper relaxation state than other forms of sedation.
The procedure is simple. When you arrive for your treatment you will be given an oral sedative, which will put you into a relaxed and comfortable state. Most of our patients drift into sleep. The medications used create an amnesia-like state in which you will most likely have little, if any, recollection of your procedure. The time you spend in the dental chair will seem like minutes. You will be monitored during your dental procedure using pulse oximetry. For your added safety our entire staff is Basic Life Support and CPR trained.
Sedation dentistry is great for sophisticated procedures such as implant dentistry, full mouth rehabilitation, and extended general dentistry. At Tavormina Dentistry we have worked with oral conscious sedation for dental patients with different histories and backgrounds from Millburn, Short Hills, West Orange, Maplewood, Springfield, Summit and throughout Northern NJ. Each sedation dentistry appointment is tailored to your specific needs, always keeping your safety in mind.
Through the use of oral conscious sedation, we can overcome your past unpleasant experiences and eliminate your fears. We can help you achieve better dental health, improve your smile, and help you keep your teeth.
