Porcelain Veneers Post-Operative Care

At Tavormina Dentistry we want to make sure you always are as comfortable as possible. Our patients throughout Union, Essex, Morris, Middlesex and Somerset Counties in New Jersey have become accustomed to having the detailed information they need about their dental services.

Regarding porcelain veneers, to prevent injury to your mouth and lips, do not eat for at least two hours and until your anesthesia has completely worn off. After your anesthesia wears off, you may feel some discomfort in the gums surrounding the affected teeth. If so, rinse the area with warm salt water. Take Advil or Tylenol according to directions if the discomfort persists.

Be careful and gentle when brushing around the affected area. When flossing, do not pull on the temporary device, and avoid chewing hard or chewy foods with that side of your mouth. For the first few days, avoid very hot or cold foods and beverages. If your temporary device comes off, contact us so we can schedule an emergency visit to reapply it for you.

Permanent Veneers

When the final veneers are placed, your bite may feel slightly unfamiliar until your mouth adjusts to the new addition. Within a few days, it should feel completely natural. If not, call us to schedule an appointment for an adjustment.

It is important to resume regular brushing and flossing immediately, and to thoroughly clean the area between the veneer and the tooth at the gum line. A consistent daily home care routine will maximize the service life of your veneers. Smile a lot with total confidence and enjoy the look and feel of your beautiful new smile! We are conveniently located to communities throughout northern NJ from Millburn to Livingston and West Orange, so tell your friends who are interested in enhancing their appearance and confidence about your comforting experience at Tavormina Dentistry. They’ll thank you!
